It's strange to see how split opinions are on this album but I'm sure David Coverdale would rather elicit strong views either way than just have everyone say "Yes, it's okay I suppose".
Personally I wasn't overly impressed when I first played it. In fact I was very disappointed. However, as Whitesnake played such an important role in my musical development I persevered for a couple more listens and boy am I glad I did. While it is not perfect, it is still a very strong addition to the catalogue. I'd advise those of you who binned it earlier to revisit it and you might just realise that you made a mistake.

well after a few good reports i finally brought the album and i will have to admit after 15 times listening to it i am still dissappointed, yes the raw musical power is back with some great gitar work and drum work, but and heres the massive but for me there are no songs on there that are truely great songs the lirics to me seemed to be totaly forgotten, indeed even on the 15th play i couldn't sing along to any songs (even while driving along with the music turned up) at least with st anger you had a couple of tracks that blew me away
don't know what went wrong but this ain't in my top 10 of metallica albums

Brilliant album,no soppy ballards here, all killer,no filler as they say. This is the sort of album the Darkness should have made (and were capable of).Every track a classic.Seen the band live and they are incredible, like AC/DC but on speed.Buy it now and sell your grandmother if you have to,to get tickets for a live show.

It's not as bad as Paul thinks, but he's mostly right the only songs that have any life at all are right at the end and he probably didn't endure the banality to listen that far. 'What it takes to win' & 'turn down the world tonight' have a little more gumption than the rest of this feeble offering and just happen to be the ones where the new singer isn't trying to mimic the old singer. 'The Journey' is an instrumental nod to their 70's incarnation and isn't too bad. As for the positive reviews this has recieved from others, I can only imagine they are desperate for Journey to keep going no matter what banal tripe they push out, listen to some classic albums from journey, this just doesn't make the grade. I want Journey to continue but with quality songs, most ... Read More:

Def Leppard doing covers??? whatever next is this the swan song era now? No, definetley not! These covers aren't covers, they are recreations. In fact quite a few are better than the original - which is some compliment. Well done guys on pulling this off, as it could have been a complete disaster!

Crue in great album shocker! Seriously. I quite liked the lesser known and more recent Generation Swine and the eponomous Motley Crue albums, but really they've never hit the heights of their first album. I surely never saw this coming. For me, Shout at the Devil, Girls, Dr Feelgood and Theatre of Pain were an increasingly horrible attempt to ingratiate themselves to the MTV generation. Guns n Roses stepped in and took the credible metal vote while the Crue whored themselves into a panto act. But here there's a return to that scratchy under-produced brilliance, with a bit of craft that they picked up along the way. I don't normally do 5 stars.

Firstly, I wouldn't generally bother writing a review about anything. The fact that I've bothered here should say a little about the quality of this album. I feel I owe it to the boys for creating the best album of this decade.
When I first heard Burn The Witch nearer the start of this year, I was actually very disappointed. I must say, I'm not a big fan of that song at all. I almost didn't bother persuing Stone Gods at this point but I'm so glad I did!
My Highlights:
You Brought A Knife To A Gunfight - What a fantastic song! The chorus will make you smile. And, let's face it, this absolutely rocks. Reminds me of when they actually knew how to make music.
Magdalene Street - Took a while to grow on me but wow! It's one of ... Read More:
