Fans of the Boosh will delight at the exploits Flight of the Conchords, the self-styled 4th most famous New Zealand folk-parody duo. This is a comedy show that takes a little from many of the best comedy shows from the past decade and then mixes it all up in a relatively fresh and gloriously quirky way. The deadpan humour of the Office is highly evident as are the flights of comedic whimsy and humourous fantasy one might find in any Boosh show. The offbeat tone will appeal to anyone who loved Napoleon Dynamite and the musical numbers (some of the best musical comedy I've heard in recent years) come across as a mix between Bill Bailey and a less rude Tenacious D (in improvisational tone anyway). Bret and Jemaine play off one another superbly ... Read More:

You don't get much for your money with this EP but what you do get is quality from the get go to the let go. If you've never heard Flight of the Conchords before this CD makes an excellent (if slightly pricey) introduction to the funniest novelty folk duo on the planet.
If you've already got the HBO TV series, buy the BBC radio series before you get this. It's almost as good as the TV show and you get a lot of Conchords for your money. But do buy this, it's just as good as anything else the Conchords have done and if you loved them on TV or on the radio you won't want to miss out.

What a little gem this is. I can't believe this passed me by (well it was on the radio so that's probably why). This is probably better than anything I have seen on TV for the last couple of years. I must admit that I haven't seen the HBO TV series and I'm not sure if I really want to because this is so good that I don't want to be disappointed.
For those of you who don't know, Flight of the Conchords are a real band, they even have an album out on the sub pop label. Though this radio series is a fictitious account of their attempt to break into the UK scene. They are described as a novelty band and indeed their songs are very funny but the music is still good as well. The only thing I can compare them to are Tenacious D but then they ... Read More:

I investigated this film on the back of brilliant indie comedy Flight of the Conchords, the vehicle through which Jermaine Clement achieved mainstream fame. Having never seen him outside of his bizarrely symbiotic relationship with Bret Mckenzie, I was surprised to see Clement here: in a Dynamite-esqe film. While Clement gets most of the good one liners in this film, you may find yourself disliking him in the first portion of the film. Before the action moves wholesale to Jarrod's family home, he comes across as rather one dimensional next to the bottomless well of emotion that is Lily. His assertion "I'm just so deep" makes you want to answer "No, you're just an insensitive idiot".
However, this is a film of 2 halves, and when you meet Jarrod's ... Read More:

This is certainly an interesting album but it will not be to everyone's taste. I recommend that you forget the hype and just listen to it - this is one of those albums that you will either love immediately, or not. I would say that it takes a few listens and is well worth the effort. The vocals (and harmonies) are really lovely and the music is fresh and adventurous. The opening track does the rest of the album no favours; I found it more rewarding to start with track 2 and then listen on, returning to track 1 at the end (I hope that makes sense!). Well worth taking a chance on - each track is a surprise and there are not many albums around these days that deliver that.

I found the white stripes interesting, but wasn't particularly mad about them. Haven't listened to much of the first Raconteurs album either, but I saw them on BBC2 Culture show a couple of months ago and was mesmerised - amazing musicians.
As most people point out - this is a varied album, and some are instantly brilliant (Many shades of black, Carlolina Story, The switch and the spur) and some take a while to grow on you( and personally I find White's voice a bit, well, irritating sometimes, whereas Benson has a much easier (and very good) classic rock voice), but it is a very, very good album indeed...

I'd enjoyed a couple of tracks on the radio, but hearing the album as a whole it starts to become a bit too 'arctic monkeys' - who I don't dislike, but it's just a bit too strident, and not enough 60s-ness.
Nice enough in small doses, but if you don't like alex turners voice you'd hate it.

Well, well, well, where have MGMT come from? They seem to have just popped up out of no man's land!
I have to say, when I first heard them on Radio 1 I was a little unsue. But after seeing them live and listening to their album I just can't stop listening to it.
The whole album is filled with hits, Time To Pretend, Weekend Wars, Electric Feel and Kids to name a few but to be honest I should really list them all!

That Mr Vernon-Iver should have entitled one of the nine extraordinary
songs on this weirdly wonderful album 'Wolves (Act1 & Act2)' would alone
have been enough to have caught my attention had not our dear friends at
Amazon also kindly included it in their increasingly astute recommendations
for me.
Isolation is a privilege. Few of us, whether we chose to or not, have the
opportunity to be completely alone. The world will not let us unless we find
that rare opening to some small space where we might rehearse being
ourselves entirely. (Or failing that at least borrow a little time for self-reflection).
Far fewer still are those of us fortunate enough to own a father
with a hunting cabin in Wisconsin. ... Read More:
