Some 66 minutes of music, 25 tracks of mainly lesser known material- though only two are completely unreleased.
Double CD of Nina's work from arguably her most creative years with RCA. Nina had always been incredibly diverse as an artist and her audience reflected this; being acclaimed by the likes of Frank Sinatra and the Beatniks of Greenwich Village. Any `Ninaologist' who is determined to get beyond the countless compilation CD s and the classic re-issues will grab this as a matter of course. But for anyone who is hesitating?
The answer will be a definite yes! Buy It! This release shows Nina Simone at her most interesting, diving into the chaos of the USA in an era defined by rising Black Consciousness, Anti ... Read More:

I know and accept that we are all entitled to our opinions, but I find the one-star review for this CD given by one of the listeners impossible and, to be quite honest, a bit of an insult to serious jazz listeners, not to mention the great Cassandra Wilson herself, one of (possibly the best) the best jazz singers of her generation. I have this and all of her other albums, and I find this one particularly masterful in it's execution. The voice sounds fresher than ever and the musicians playing with her are nothing short of superb, each a master in his own right. To dismiss this as "dinner music" (as some apparently have) misses the point of the album entirely. In "Loverly", Wilson takes familiar music and transforms it, with elegance, intelligence ... I liked this album a lot. It starts off strong and gets better through to the two songs at the end, which for me were the highlights. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautifully produced. A melancholy album pretty much through and through I felt, and that would be my only criticism. Nothing pacey and upbeat to help mix it up a bit. Four stars from me.

Fantastic album Pacific Ocean Blue, just get it and listen to it, plus the bonus tracks and the additional lost album 'Bambu', all beautifully packaged, make this a worthy tribute to a flawed genius; Dennis Wilson.

along with Duffy these are my 2 albums of the year. Every track is superb, very classy production and I love the use of horns on a lot of the tracks. Only 2 or 3 sound like Texas, otherwise you get Tamla, Nancy Sinatra and a French sound.I wish there were more songs as the 11 fly by when listening and its under 40 mins long. Do another next year Sharleen!

I bought the vinyl LP on release in 1982, it has always been a favourite. Sure she does not have the perfect pitch of her Colpix years. However, what you have instead is that raw brand of emotion that only Nina could convey and which she did ever more in her later recordings. The lyrics are personal and heartfelt.
I defy anyone to not be affected by the insight of "There is no returning" the first part of "People en Suisse". (Has similar sentiments to the Bernstein song "Who Am I" from NS & Piano.) Then there is "Alone again naturally", at last made available. The mixture of regret and invective has never been so graphically portayed by anyone before.
This album is the successor to Baltimore; whilst it lacks the strings and sophistication of the CTI ... Read More:

For Emma just creeps up on you and invades your existence but in the most wondrous way. Had an awful long drive home one evening in the pitch darkness and listened to it properly. It's like having your best in friend in the car with you. When it finished I just put it back on again. Very wintry, isolated, atmospheric and lovely. Creature Fear and Lump Sum are brilliant. Lets not mess about all the songs are superb. And then of course there is "Re. Stacks" - the song of the year. Quite where Justin Vernon goes next I don't know but I do care a lot.

Keeps-you-smiling music! One of the best voices that ever graced the music business. My 17 year old thinks she's as amazing as I do.
