I bought 'Two Sevens Clash' and a couple of other Culture albums in the late Seventies, and the sweet singing over classic Joe Gibbs backing tracks have always had a special place for me.

Now, thanks to the archaeological wonders of cd releases, you can have some of Culture's best tracks, sounding terrific in digital form, along with a variety of DJ additions, making each track a delight however well you remember the original. A must for any reggae fan.

A Little Bit More: Joe Gibbs 12" Selection 1978-1983

I love Joe Gibbs productions, the heavy bass reminds me of the 1970s vibe so well. Reggae just does not sound like this anymore. I remember visiting my aunt as a little boy in 1978 and she had this track "Hole in the bucket" by Kojak and Liza. My aunt was ecstatic about that track. She loved rude innuendo. My mom was quite displeased with it but I quietly sat thinking that I would never hear that track again; well I'm nearly 40 and it is now available on CD. So Greensleeves continue to bring back good memories to help people who have forgotten when music made you laugh, smile, blush and of course dance!

Every Mouth Must Be Fed: Micron Music Presents

Must be one of the best Pressure Sounds compilations,if not the best!Sublime collection from the Micron label of early seventies roots reggae.From a time before the major labels jumped in on the back of Marley and the rasta band wagon was still empty.Well Recommended

Scorchers from the Mighty Two

Great set from Joe Gibbs stable,seen some of these tracks selling for a lot of money on a well known website and in secondhand shops,so well worth purchasing if you like great vintage reggae music.Some sound tracks lacks sound quality maybe a "CD thing" otherwise a great set worth having.

Reggae Anthology: the Channel One Story

This is a top notch collection of classic tunes produced by Jo Jo Hookim at his family's Channel One studio, some will be familiar to anyone with more than a passing acquaintance with mid-70s to early 80s reggae, others less so.

It's well mastered too, in terms of overall punchy sound and good bass, however where I have been able to compare tracks with the original singles (e.g. Leroy Smart's "Ballistic Affair") it's clear that it has had extra reverb added at the mastering stage, presumably to give it a "bigger" sound. Personally I don't have a huge problem with this as it works well and still sounds great, but some people will undoubtedly find it annoying and want to hear these tracks exactly as they were originally issued, particularly ... The '17 North Parade' offshoot of the VP record label has been issuing excellent reggae revive albums and compilations for a few years now but this might be their masterpiece which is appropriate as VP records evolved from the Jamaican based Randy's record label which is the subject of this compilation. The package includes two full hour plus music CDs and a "bonus" DVD telling the story of Randy's. Whilst the DVD is a pretty basic affair the story it tells is fascinating for reggae buffs like myself and the wealth of talent involved is amazing for the cognoscenti including many luminaries from the golden age of reggae.
