well after a few good reports i finally brought the album and i will have to admit after 15 times listening to it i am still dissappointed, yes the raw musical power is back with some great gitar work and drum work, but and heres the massive but for me there are no songs on there that are truely great songs the lirics to me seemed to be totaly forgotten, indeed even on the 15th play i couldn't sing along to any songs (even while driving along with the music turned up) at least with st anger you had a couple of tracks that blew me away
don't know what went wrong but this ain't in my top 10 of metallica albums
Release Date April 21, 2008
It's strange to see how split opinions are on this album but I'm sure David Coverdale would rather elicit strong views either way than just have everyone say "Yes, it's okay I suppose".
Personally I wasn't overly impressed when I first played it. In fact I was very disappointed. However, as Whitesnake played such an important role in my musical development I persevered for a couple more listens and boy am I glad I did. While it is not perfect, it is still a very strong addition to the catalogue. I'd advise those of you who binned it earlier to revisit it and you might just realise that you made a mistake.

Head First was the last Heep album I bought. Not paid any attention to them since then, but reading reviews here at Amazon, I took the plunge and bought Awake The Sleeper.
Good job I took the advice on offer, because this is a good, solid listen and so nearly a 5 star effort.
Good mixture of new and old sounds here, with that great Heep-unique organ accompanying songs throughout. It rocks from start to finish, but a special mention for What Kind of God, which is classic Heep to these ears.
Lads, don't think about drawing your pensions yet : there's obviously life in you all still!

This has been a fine run on albums by the mighty Motorhead and this years release of Motorizer keeps this consistancy going. Never one to stray too far from their formula sound they still manage to inject that little bit of new angle to each album. This hasn't been off my ipod since I got it, a must buy for any serious hard rock or metal fan.
Release Date October 20, 2008
Slightly better than Stiff Upper Lip, but not as good as Razors Edge. Not quite a classic album because there's too many flat tracks here. Having said that I've played it many times and punch my fist in the air in enjoyment. The stand out tracks are Runnaway Train, Big Jack, War Machine, Spoiling for a fight, and Rocking all the way. All in all, if you're a fan, buy it, play it and get rocking!

Brilliant album,no soppy ballards here, all killer,no filler as they say. This is the sort of album the Darkness should have made (and were capable of).Every track a classic.Seen the band live and they are incredible, like AC/DC but on speed.Buy it now and sell your grandmother if you have to,to get tickets for a live show.

So here we go, the second album from Black Stone Cherry is here, and it's been worth the wait.
Southern Rock has never sounded so fresh and contemporary, killer guitar lines, powerful vocals and improved songwriting all contribute here to a band rapidly on the rise.
Things don't really get much better than album opener "Blind Man" which believe me is a good thing, because this song is easily one of the best rock songs I've heard this year.
The Ballad "Things my father said" again fits in beautifully, its a tearful reflection on one's dad who has passed away.
It's a shame a band like this is not very well known, by that I mean the casual music listener, because it really is a quality album.

Very much appreciated return to Alice's roots. Great, sneering vocals and the band sound tight, as they should for they are his established touring band. Vengance is Mine is the stand out track for me, Typical Slash guitar work and it makes the album worth the money on its own, and I feel sure that it will be included on the live setlist from now on.
Great stuff and I'm hoping that we see Alice back in December in the UK.

It's not as bad as Paul thinks, but he's mostly right the only songs that have any life at all are right at the end and he probably didn't endure the banality to listen that far. 'What it takes to win' & 'turn down the world tonight' have a little more gumption than the rest of this feeble offering and just happen to be the ones where the new singer isn't trying to mimic the old singer. 'The Journey' is an instrumental nod to their 70's incarnation and isn't too bad. As for the positive reviews this has recieved from others, I can only imagine they are desperate for Journey to keep going no matter what banal tripe they push out, listen to some classic albums from journey, this just doesn't make the grade. I want Journey to continue but with quality songs, most of these are not, stop pretending to ... Read More:
