This very rare and long time out of print recording was the second LP that Basie recorded using only the songs of the "Fab Four".
The stunning arrangements are by the fabulous writer Bob Florence.
Recorded in 1969 the album made little impact at the time on its first release. Basie recorded a number of contemporary albums around this time having found much new material to work with including an album of James Bond movie themes which had modest success.This second album of Beatles songs is a real swinger with some excellent performances by the orchestra.There are some real surprises in the arrangements and orchestrations creating a very "hip" and "groovy" sounding Basie. It strikes me how nobody is talking about how awful this record sounds. It is loud, compressed... It seems to have been mixed directly into an mp3 player; the saddest thing of all is that it has some of the better songs Weller has ever written... Someone has to do something with the awful sounding records released today, because nobody seems to notice.

The Beatles - All Together Now

This is as described - a documentary account of the making of the Cirque du Soleil LOVE show in Las Vegas. To expect a complete performance of the stage show would be asking too much. The show, like any other designed for the stage has to be seen..er...on the stage.
We've all heard criticism of the soundtrack album and about how the sacred work shouldn't be played around with - BUT don't forget, it's a soundtrack to a show, just as this film is a documentary about the way that the show came to life.
One thing that comes over in the film, as in the show, is the care in portraying the main players (ie the Beatles) as having a great collective sense of humour. Something easy to forget all these years later.

Brian Ferry as a singer songwriter I can take or leave.Roxy Music in small doses.Ferry as an artist who does stacks of cover versions? Yes definitely.
The Dylan collection is not the first time he dabbled in Dylan as A hard rain's gonna fall was made in 1974 in a radical makeover which was more Barry McGuire than Bob Dylan-whose original had been acoustic.
Purists may object but then they aren't the ones who'd have the imagination Ferry has.
For a start this is more a label of love.Its never going to be any sort of chart record unless public taste moves back to where it was before the 80s.
I now look forward to Ferry doing a Beatles covers album

The Beatles - Help! Limited Edition

I bought this edition of Help as a Christmas present to myself. Being an old Beatles fan. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the packaging and content. The way it is wrapped in Help paper appealed to me. The picture and sound qualty is great and I liked the documentary.
