Well, I've only been listening to this album for a day now and I already love it. Although its not the Orb's best album (a la U.F.Orb), it has some quality tracks on it e.g. the big beats of Ubiquity, the techno-ness of Asylum, the bounciness of Toxygene (which wasn't commisioned from Jean Michel Jarre, that was just a joke made by the band). Also, the album has an obvious oriental quality to it, which also helps me like it because I like parts of Chinese/Japanese music. If you're an Orb fan add it to your collection, if you haven't heard them try U.F.Orb or Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld first, and if you don't like them then...what are you reading this for? Buy and Bye.

If you liked it the first time around then this reissue is a must. The second disc includes some wildly different interpretations, plus the Scourge of The Earth (Caulty) remix of Once More, which I think only appeared on vinyl originally. Disc 2 almost works as an album in its own right, but Disc 1 is still the real business (apart from the silly Egnable, but you can program that out if you wish).
Not always classic Orb, and includes first real foray into vocal tracks (guest vocalists), but more varied than Orblivion and far more accessible than Pomme Fritz. They followed with the dreamy Bicycles and then the dub-tastic Dream, so the Orb are still very much around. However this is a solid album and the reissue is well mastered. ... Read More:

Not another Orb album I hear you cry, but wait. This one is actually quite good. It is a compilation of the live BBC sessions they did between 89 and 01 and is probably more of a companion to "Evil Orb" than any studio album.
The Orb were always an inventive live act, mixing up samples and bass lines, and some of the tracks here are so different as to be better than the album versions. That is just my opinion though.
Hilights are the liner notes by Kirs Needs, the cover of the Stooges "No Fun" and a great "Towers of dub".

Having listened to Adventures beyond the Ultraworld until I knew every note - I wondered if any future album would live up to this benchmark.
There have been some really memorable pieces of work since then which I won't repeat where others have. Until now.....
This album sums up how far The Orb have travelled and for me that is full circle. This album contains rich textures and a warm foot tapping feeling rather than being creative and isolated as with earlier albums. Plenty of rhythmic beats and bass.
Tracks such as High Noon, A beautiful day and The truth is are exceptional. Yes there are plenty of vocals which also work really well.
With the trademark 'less than 30 second' tracks thrown in as well these prepare you ... Read More:

Set phasers to stun and fasten your seatbelts. Psychonauts stand by!!! This is a classic album and I think one of the defining soundtracks of modern club life. A staple survival tool for late night/early dawns.

The sonic boom boys are back with a beautifully recorded opus, that will have all fans of electronic music salivating,OK it doesn't have the depth of emotion that ,say,Tangerine Dream have, buit it does have soul and mysticism in abundance.
The use of samples is fantastic,Sitars weave in and out of electronic patterns that bring early seventies German Rock to mind.
These two tracks are lengthy explorations of what is achievable with synthesizers these days, the sound shifts and alters and creates mosaics of sound that meld well together admirably.

Missed the release date of this, was initially confused by last Amorphous Androgynous release, but then realized what Gary Cobain et al was trying to do was pay his homage to psychedelic music, this however is a greater and more coherent achievement. The songs and concept keep this together. Certainly on the 'Isness' the songs with lyrics were a bit iffy. Here there is more styling and maturity. The instrumentation is more organized, there is inclusion of Linda Lewis who does a nice vocal on one track, there is a fair amount of slide guitar and some all out rock. It is a very varied and complete recording with 18 tracks, all heavily processed full of screaming layers of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' type sounds, swirling about in a miasma of psychedelic mayhem. I love ... Read More:

if they'd included the a DVD version of the "Patterns & Textures" video this Deluxe edition would have taken pride of place in my 90's ambient collection
but they haven't, so it won't!
