In a discussion recently I remarked to a friend how Nine Inch Nails are the only band who [in my opinion] have never made a bad album. However, I now take my comment back. While the production of the album is first rate, the songs fall far from the industrial noise come conceptual evolutions that have propelled Trent Reznor through the last decades. The opening track (999,999) gives intriguing promise, only to give way to the disappointing melodic electronica that doesn't subside. There is one diamond in the rough though; The Four of us in Here Are Dying. However this instrumental is not enough to rescue the sinking ship that is 'the slip'. Ultimately this album feels little more than Trent Reznor and friends jamming in their studio. Full marks ... Read More:

well after a few good reports i finally brought the album and i will have to admit after 15 times listening to it i am still dissappointed, yes the raw musical power is back with some great gitar work and drum work, but and heres the massive but for me there are no songs on there that are truely great songs the lirics to me seemed to be totaly forgotten, indeed even on the 15th play i couldn't sing along to any songs (even while driving along with the music turned up) at least with st anger you had a couple of tracks that blew me away
don't know what went wrong but this ain't in my top 10 of metallica albums

As the previous reviewer pointed out this is an excellent offering crammed full of big soaring melodies. It's not the most original or creative album in my collection but I think that's why its so good. KTMIA doesn't try to be anything but a straight forward verse / chorus melodic rock album, but it does it with exceptional style and craftsmanship. The blend of baritone, pitch perfect vocals, beautiful clean, soaring guitars, intelligent lyrics and simple song structures is close to perfection. More akin to APC than Tool, Ashes Divide have still created their own individual sound without trying to hard to be something else.
Simply a superb melodic rock album.

I wouldn't call myself a fan Of Disturbed but I have The Sickness and Ten Thousand Fists they are both amazing album (and both sound unique in its sound). This album however didn't top 'em. The album starts off really well with Indestructable, Inside The Fire & Deceiver but then goes down hill. All the songs seem to have really good heavy intros with great drumming but Dave's vocals though he is a great vocalist just sounds the same in nearly all the tracks, sometimes it sounds like he doesn't want to be there. The musicianship is awesome, in every song. This album just doesn't have enough variety in it, it soon becomes repetitive, some tracks are excellent and alot of that has to do with Dave's vocals.

I'm new to the Trent Reznor fan club, having heard 'Spiral' years ago, which left me cold. The lyrics didn't gel and i couldn't relate to someone that depressed.
Having started my NIN purchases with Year Zero, the level of expectation hovers above reasonable, but 'Ghosts' does not disappoint. If you're a fan you own it, and you can download it for $5 on the NIN website.
One thing i have to comment on though is the NIN fanclub - hilarious! Even Amazon states in reviews for both 'Ghosts' and the fantastic follow-up 'The Slip' that they're the greatest releases by NIN - seems no-one can make up their minds.
Just enjoy - who cares which release is best?
If they're good they're good - and they are.

I brought this album in special edition and i must say it's the best slipknot album yet. songs like: sulphur, dead memories, butchers hook and psychosocial are the best to listen to and backed up by so many other cool tracks this album is a rare treat and the best album of 2008.

I read a review for this CD in Classic Rock magazine. It gave it 4/10 & a below par rating. As a result I decided to stay clear of it, thinking it would be another collection of naff songs by a front man of a great band (anybody that owns Michael Hutchence's 1999 effort will know what I mean). I then heard the single 'Love remains the same' and thought it was quite good. I then had a listen to a few samples of other tracks on the album. This is a very good album. All the tracks are well written, produced, played and sung. It isn't Bush although you can hear a hint of that sound in some tracks (the skin I'm in). I really like it and would recommend it to Bush fans or anyone into AOR. Ok you could argue it's a bit commercial but so what. Well done Gavin.

Within 30 seconds of the first spin of this album I knew I'd once again found the STP sound I thought was gone forever! I've loved STP since Core, and I think Scott Weiland was a superb vocalist, but it's clear now that the STP sound had a lot more to do with the DeLeo brothers than Weiland.
Army of Anyone is tight, punchy, soulfully felt, and fun! Most of the familiar moods and textures are here plus some new ones. Richard Patrick has a great voice too, and the only thing stopping me giving it 5 stars is that the mix is a bit too compressed and static.

There is a statement on the inlay of Filter's debut LP "Short Bus" that reads as follows: "There is a certain subset of musicians who for reasons unknown adhere to the false premise that "electronic" music or the tools involved imply a lack of creativity of inspired performance. Technology in the hands of creative, intelligent individuals is a tool for art, not a hindrance. Filter, being members of the current millennia, admit freely to the use of such devices." I agree wholeheartedly with the spirit of this statement - technology is all too often used as a tool to mask a lack of talent and ideas (see almost all pop music of the last 15-20 years), but in the right hands it opens up a world of possibilities that can be exploited with intelligence and subtlety, and when done properly ... So here we go, the second album from Black Stone Cherry is here, and it's been worth the wait.
Southern Rock has never sounded so fresh and contemporary, killer guitar lines, powerful vocals and improved songwriting all contribute here to a band rapidly on the rise.
Things don't really get much better than album opener "Blind Man" which believe me is a good thing, because this song is easily one of the best rock songs I've heard this year.
The Ballad "Things my father said" again fits in beautifully, its a tearful reflection on one's dad who has passed away.
It's a shame a band like this is not very well known, by that I mean the casual music listener, because it really is a quality album.
